Project Overview

Vanguard was in the midst of a large-scale digital modernization effort aimed at improving the experience for both financial advisors and investors across its global digital ecosystem. As a Prototype Developer and UX Manager for Vanguard Japan, I worked within a multidisciplinary team responsible for researching, designing, and validating new digital experiences that would help shape the future direction of Vanguard’s online platforms.

Our team focused primarily on the Financial Advisor business, where we developed the initial concepts, interaction models, and user-tested prototypes that served as the foundation for broader enterprise adoption. Many of the design patterns and experiences created during this initiative were later carried into Vanguard’s larger corporate digital properties.

Responsibilities

• Developed interactive prototypes for user research and stakeholder validation.
• Managed UX initiatives and website content strategy for Vanguard Japan.
• Supported and maintained digital experiences for Vanguard Canada and Australia.
• Collaborated with researchers and stakeholders to facilitate usability testing and A/B testing initiatives.

Impact

The modernization initiative allowed Vanguard to test and validate new digital experiences before investing in large-scale implementation. By creating research-driven prototypes and conducting extensive usability testing, our team helped reduce uncertainty around new tools, information architecture, and advisor-focused workflows.

Once the concepts, patterns, and prototypes were validated, the project transitioned to broader implementation teams who used our work as the foundation for future development. The experiences pioneered within the Financial Advisor division ultimately influenced the design direction of additional Vanguard digital properties.
